Griffons have a shortening of the upper alveolar process of the jaw. Symptoms: protruding tongue, abnormal development of the palate, strong protrusion of the lower incisors.
Sometimes clefts of the front part of the skull are manifested. This hereditary anomaly, fortunately, is quite rare, combined with cleft lip, cleft jaw, cleft in one or both nasal openings.
With stenosis of the nasal cavity, the dog sniffles and groans when breathing after physical exertion, worries, because the air received is not enough.
Quite often, griffon has a syndrome of "reverse sneezing." When the dog is overexcited, an attack of noisy breathing occurs, with a convulsive breath and strong wave-like raising of the ribs. It may seem that the pet is about to suffocate. As a rule, the duration of the attack is about 15 seconds. Then he passes.
Griffons may have an incomplete set of teeth. In addition, due to the peculiarities of the structure of the jaw, tartar is formed very quickly, which leads to periodontal disease. Teeth should be cleaned regularly.
The weak point of the griffin is dysplasia of the hip joints. The dog is in pain, limping. Unhealthy diet and injuries from falling or jumping can aggravate the disease.
The problem of many small dogs is a dislocation of the patella. Arthritis may result.
Griffon's bulging eyes are irritated and scratched.If your pet's eyes turn red or itch, contact your veterinarian.
Representatives of the breed are prone to allergies. Symptoms: itching, constant licking of the paws.
